By Michael Hehn This is the hidden paradise of Costa Rica, a tiny little country located in Central America, nestled between Panama and Nicaragua. The tiny size is compensated by the amount of lush natural resources and fauna to be found. It would seem the people in Costa Rica certainly know how to enjoy themselves and be 'laid back' at the same time.
This tiny country is home to 5% of the World biodiversity which is quite amazing when you consider the size. There are a total of 26 national parks and protected area in Costa Rica. Vacationing here offers a lot of great ocean views since it's got the Pacific Ocean to the West and the Caribbean Sea to the East. The Caribbean side offers tranquil moments basking in the warm sun and beautiful sunsets while the other side offers large waves for some hot heart stopping action for the adventurous soul. There's so much you can do while on a Costa Rican vacation and the activities are endless. Revel at the variety of wildlife available here- macaws, leatherback turtles, morphed butterflies, just to name a few. There are rainforest tours you can join and safari trips for the adventurous. You can see for yourself migrating whales, dolphins and sea turtles during specific time. The Arena that is located at the northern part of the country is an active volcano. The other volcano is located at the midpoint and there is another at the southern end of this country. Much of the most lush and beautiful plant life is near the volcanoes because of the ashes it gives off actually works as a fertilizer since the lava had burned away old plants giving new growth nutrient rich soil to grow from. Costa Rica now attracts tourists worldwide who simply love to soak up the sun on the pristine beaches of this tropical paradise. Christmas time would be the beginning of the dry season in Costa Rica while the months after May would mark the arrival of the rainy season. Choose the right time to visit, especially when the weather is very hot, since it is located just mere miles from the equator. Tourists should be aware of possible natural disasters and to choose who they tour with carefully; many Americans have gone missing in foreign lands because they go off with people they don't know very well. To have a meaningful and enjoyable vacation in Costa Rica, make sure you do your homework accordingly and plan the trip well. Michael Hehn is a specialist in South America.
